Let There Be Light

Monday January 1, 2024
Let there be light.  One might ask, “why read through the Bible again if you have already done it once?”  That is a good question.  I would reply to that with a question and a statement.  The question would be, “what else better are you going to read”?  The statement would be that the more times you read through the Bible, the more insight you get about the Author.  Have you ever thought about the very first thing God does in the creation.  After God creates the heavens and the earth, the very first thing God does is speak light into existence by saying, “Let there be light”.  What was that light and why did God do that as the very first thing in the creation account before He did anything else?  In what I am about to say, I don’t want you to think that I am saying the light that was created on day one of creation was Jesus.  It was not because Jesus was there before that along with God for we read in John, “In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God” (John 1:1).  But I do what you to see the importance that God places on the light and the parallel that exists between that account and the Light (Jesus) we have received in salvation.  In 2 Corinthians, we read, “For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to [give] the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us. ...Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body” (2Cor 4:6-7, 10).
