Sent By God

Sent by God.  Moses had killed an Egyptian, and when Moses found out that others knew about this, he was afraid and fled from Egypt (Exodus 2:14).  Pharaoh actually tried to have him killed before he fled.  While Moses was shepherding the flock of his father-in-law, God spoke to him from a burning bush.  God has heard the cries of his people and is going to send Moses back to Egypt, to Pharaoh, in order to lead God’s people out of Egypt.  This is what God said, “therefore, go, I am sending you to Pharaoh so that you may lead my people, the Israelites, out of Egypt” (Genesis 3:10).  I know we are probably all familiar with this account, but I paused for a moment to think how Moses most have felt when he heard those words from God.  We know Moses responds with “Who am I that I should go” (v.11).  Could you imagine how nervous or afraid he must have been.  It was fear that made him leave Egypt, and now he is being sent by God to go back.  It is good for us to pause and remember that those people we read about in the Bible were people just like you and me.  It is possible to become detached from who this is being written about because we never met them personally and they lived so long ago.  But they were real people just like us, with all of the same emotions and concerns.  Moses was being sent by God and he would ultimately go by faith.
