Time of Trouble

Time of trouble?  When we look around, we certainly see trouble on every side.  The freedoms we once had are being taken away.  The rich seem to be getting richer, and all of the rich elitest seem to have more and more power and control.  It begs the question; how do we respond?  First, I believe we need to do everything legally possible to combat this.  We need to pray about how we vote.  We need to communicate with our elected officials about these concerns.  We also need to learn how to rejoice.  Listen to the psalmist, “Why should I fear in ties of trouble?  The iniquity of my foes surrounds me.  They trust in their wealth and boast of their abundant riches.  Yet these cannot redeem a person or pay his ransom to God – since the price of redeeming him is too costly, one should forever stop trying – so that he may live forever and not see the Pit” (Psalm 49:5-9).  We are reminded that riches will not go with anyone when they die.  Their power and control will cease as well.  But that is not so with us, who are born-again.  We have been redeemed with the costly price of the Lamb of God.  And when death comes, we can say with the psalmist, “But God will redeem me from the power of Sheol, for he will take me” (v.15).  O, death where is thy sting?  O, grave, where is thy victory?  Thanks be to God who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ! (1 Corinthians 15:55-57)
