Same Dedication Gift

Same dedication gift.  In our reading today, we have one entire chapter mostly devoted to describing the offerings from each tribe for the dedication gift for the altar when it was anointed (Numbers 7).  Each day, one leader was to bring their dedication gift for the altar (v.11).  What proceeds is a listing of each day, the name of the tribe and the dedication gift that is brought.  What we see is that the exact same gift is brought from each tribe.  There are a few things that I learned from reading that particular chapter.  First of all, the same gift must have been required by God for each tribe.  It would seem that it was no coincidence that each tribe brought the same exact offerings: grain offering, burnt offering, sin offering, and fellowship sacrifice.  Second, each tribe had the ability and means to bring forth these gifts.  God does not require more of us than we are able to perform.  God accepted these gifts.  What proceeds after a summary of the dedication gifts was listed is this verse, “When Moses entered the tent of meeting to speak with the Lord, he heard the voice speaking to him from above the mercy seat” (v.89).  Moses had boldness to enter after these gifts were given because they were signs of Israel’s heart that they were submissive and obedient to God’s instructions.  It is a wonderful thing to have a clear conscience before the Lord.
