A Great Sin

Wednesday January 22, 2025
A great sin.  Looking at the title of this blog post, what great sin do you think is being referenced?  What are some great sins that come to your mind?  Maybe you are thinking murder, adultery, idolatry, or even blasphemy.  The great sin that was part of our reading today is the sin of grumbling and complaining.  This is not a small sin.  The entire Israelite community grumbled against Moses and Aaron (Exodus 16:2).  God heard these complaints and stated that these complaints were not against Moses and Aaron, but against God Himself (v.8).  As we will read, these grumblings and complaints will continue, and the more they do, the angrier God becomes with the Israelites.  I cannot emphasize this enough.  This is serious!  I read the following abut the Hebrew word for grumble.  It stated, “The two Hebrew words translated “grumble” are lun and ragan. Lun connotes growling; ragan is a whispered rebellion.”  When we grumble and complain about one another, especially leadership, we are grumbling against the Lord and He hears it.  We must learn to be very aware of our attitudes and words about one another.  God is listening.
