Getting Ready

Monday January 13, 2025
Getting ready.  There is a passage in our reading today that I had made note of in previous readings, but it stood out to me again.  Joseph was in prison, but Pharaoh calls for him because he has had a dream and needs someone to interpret it.  It says they quickly brought him from the dungeon, but even in that urgency Joseph got ready to meet Pharoah.  We read, “He shaved, changed his clothes, and went to Pharaoh” (Genesis 41:14).  I find the inclusion of this interesting, don’t you?  One might say, of course he got cleaned up because he was going to go before the highest official of the land, Pharaoh.  However, God didn’t leave us to assume the he did, He included this in His Word.  How much more should we be this way when we go before God?  It is true that God is everywhere, but we specifically meeting with Him when we go to church, or at least we should be.  Church gathering is something special that God ordained and we should expect that God will meet with us there by faith.  I am not trying to preach what we should wear, but we should be mindful of this truth and take time to get ready because we are meeting with the King of Kings!  That is physically, but I also believe there is a spiritual application to getting ready.  Our righteousness is filthy and our spiritual robes stained.  Christ, by providing Himself a sacrifice, has provided to us a new robe of white.  I’ll tell you the best thing that I ever did do, I laid off the old coat and God put on the new.
