Distinction And No Respect of Person

Distinction and no respect of person.  When Moses announces the final plague to Pharaoh, he tells him that every firstborn male in the land of Egypt will die, from the first born of Pharoah to the firstborn of the servant girl who is at the grindstones (Exodus 11:5). This tells us that God is no respect of person when it comes to judgment.  From the highest and richest person in the land, Pharaoh, to the lowest and poorest, the girl at the grindstones or the prisoner in the dungeon (Exodus 12:29), God’s judgment will go forth.  There is a distinction, though, that God makes as well.  It says, “But against all the Israelites, whether people or animals, not even a dog will snarl, so that you may know that the Lord makes a distinction between Egypt and Israel” (Exodus 11:7).  One more thing to note about this distinction is that it was not automatic.  The distinguishing mark was the blood applied to the house where the Israelites were staying.  God would pass over that house when He saw the blood.  Now, all of Israel appears to have been spared that night, but it was because they were all obedient to the command of God to apply the blood.  We should praise the Lord for the distinction He has made for us, and it was all because of the blood of Christ applied to our hearts by grace through faith (obedience).  The wrath of God will come, and for those who do not have the blood applied, God is no respect of person (Romans 2:11).
