A Faithful Servant

A faithful servant.  Abraham was old.  He had a servant who was the elder of his household and who managed all he owned (Genesis 24:2).  Abraham gave this servant a great responsibility:  to the land Abraham was from, and where his brother Nahor still lived, to get a wife for his son, Isaac.  This was a trusted servant, who wanted to do a good job and be obedient to his master, Abraham.  He was diligent in his duties.  The servant does what Abraham asks, and when he arrives, he seeks the Lord for a sign.  He prays to God saying, “I am standing here at the spring where the daughters of the men of the town are coming out to draw water.  Let the girl to who I say, ‘Please lower your water jug so that I may drink’, and who responds, ‘Drink, and I’ll water your camels also’ – let her be the one you have appointed for your servant Isaac” (Genesis 24:13-14).  As a good servant, this man followed the instructions given to him by his master.   And then, not wanting to just make any selection, he sought the Lord for guidance as to whom to choose.  As good servants of the Lord, we should follow the instructions we have been given by searching His Word. However, there may be times where we need further guidance because we are diligent in our work for Him.  We pray, sometimes specifically seeking specific guidance in a situation.  God is faithful to His faithful servants.
