This Is Only A Test

This is only a test.  In our reading today, we have warnings about false prophets.  One way of knowing a false prophet was that if they speak in the Lord’s name something that does not come true or is not fulfilled, then that prophet has spoke presumptuously (Deuteronomy 18:22).  However, even if a prophet speaks something that does come true, it is not an absolute that everything that person says should be followed blindly.  If that same prophet says, “Let us follow other gods”, that he is not to be listed to for God is testing you as to whether or not you love the Lord (Deuteronomy 13:2-3).  There may come a time when someone performs what appears to be great signs and wonders.  However, listen to the message.  If the message is to follow other gods, even if they mention the name of Christ, but it is not the Christ of the Bible, then do not follow that person.  It is a test.  The Israelites were being instructed, “You must follow the Lord your God and fear him.  You must keep his commands and listen to him; you must worship him and remain faithful to him” (v.4).  Please do not follow man.  God has given us all we need, and we need no other signs and wonders to remain faithful to Him.  The greatest sign has already come; Jesus Christ and Him crucified and resurrected to life.
