When I Am Without Strength

Friday March 1, 2024
When I am without strength.  If I were to be asked about where to read in the Bible to find daily encouragement and strength, it would be the Psalms.  I am glad that our daily reading includes a Psalm and by the end of this year, we will have read through the Psalms more than twice.  In our reading today, the psalmist begins by asking God to hear his cry and pay attention to his prayer (Psalm 61:1).  Then we read this verse, “I call to you from the ends of the earth when my heart is without strength.  Lead me to a rock that is high above me, for you have been a refuge for me, a strong tower in the face of the enemy” (Psalm 61:2-3).  The psalmist has clearly come to a point of exhaustion and desperation when he states that he calls from the ends of the earth and that his heart is without strength.  The psalmist then asks the Lord to lead him to a rock that is higher than himself and reminds himself of the faithfulness and strength of God.  We can have strength, by faith, in the worst of situations, because we server One who is greater than ourselves, and He has proved His faithfulness and power to us over and over again.
