How Did We Get Here?

How did we get here?  The Song of Moses begins with a call for the people to pay attention to what is about to be spoken and to receive the message with needfulness.  Moses is proclaiming the Lord’s name and declaring the Lord’s greatness.  The Lord is the Rock and His work is perfect (Deuteronomy 32:3-4).  Immediately after that, though, Moses speaks about God’s people.  They have “acted corruptly” toward God, and he declared them not to be God’s children, but a devious and crooked generation (v.5).   And then comes the questions, “Is this how you repay the Lord, you foolish and senseless people?  Isn’t he your Father and Creator?  Didn’t He make you and sustain you?” (v.6).  This chapter will go on to describe all that God had done for Israel and the question that keeps resonating to me is, “Is this how you repay the Lord?”  How did a people so blessed by God get to a place where they were worshipping other gods?  I think about application.  If God has blessed Israel with all that was described and they are asked the question, “Is this how you repay the Lord?”, then think about how much more we have received in Christ. We must be careful not to let other things take the place of God.  He must be first!
