A Powerful Prayer

A powerful prayer.  Most of us are probably familiar with the account of Samson.  Here was a man to whom God had given miraculous power.  Samson’s weakness appeared to be women.  On two different occasions we read that women in his life nagged him for answers (Judges 14:17 and Judges 16:16) until he revealed to them certain secrets.  When this happened with Delilah, they shaved off Samson’s hair, which had never been cut.  Samson gets up to fight the enemy, as he had done before, but he did not realized that the Lord had left him (Judges 16:20).  We get a hint of something happening though, when Samson is in prison and we read “But his hair began to grow back after it had been shaved” (v.22).  This really is a message of hope after such a great failure.  It would seem that God was at work.  And then, Samuel prayed, “Lord God, please remember me.  Strengthen me, God, just once more.” (v.28).  God allows Samson’s strength to return one last time, and Samons killed more Philistines in his death than he did in his life (v.30).  When you think you have gone too far, or that God can never use you again, know that God is already at work, or you wouldn’t even be thinking about what to do.  Seek the Lord in prayer, for our God is a patient God, who is full of mercy.
