Failed Mission

Failed mission.  God gave instructions to King Saul to destroy the Amalekites and not to spare the people or the animals in Amalek.  This was the mission.  Saul did gather the troops and go to Amalek, and they were victorious in the battle.  However, they failed the mission because they did not do what God instructed them.  They captured the King of Amalek a live and they refused to destroy the best of the sheep, goats, cattle, and choice animals (1 Samuel 15:9).  When Saul meets with Samuel, Sauls boats that they did what God told them to do, but Sameul responds “Then what is this sound of sheep, goats, and cattle I hear?” (v.14).  Samuel further states, “The Lord anointed you king over Israel and then sent you on a mission and said: ‘Go and completely destroy the sinful Amalekites.  Fight against them until you have annihilated them.’  So why didn’t you obey the Lord?  Why did you rush on the plunder and do what was evil in the Lord’s sight?” (v.17-19).  Hasn’t God also given us a mission?  Our mission is NOT one of destruction!  Ours is to make know the Gospel, the Good News.  We have been anointed for this work.  Are we obedient to it?  Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, [even] unto the end of the world. Amen (Matthew 28:19-20).
