The Lord's Blessings

The Lord’s blessings.  In our reading in Psalms today, we are reminded of the necessity of the Lord’s blessings upon all that we do.  Our Christian lives are not about God doing everything while we just sit back.  However, it is also not about us doing everything, or even most things, without the blessings of God upon what we do.  We read, “Unless the Lord builds a house, its builders labor over it in vain; unless the Lord watches over a city, the watchman stays alert in vain.  In vain you get up early and stay up late, working hard to have enough food – yes, he gives sleep to the one He loves” (Psalm 127:1-2).  While God’s Word instructs us to work and make every effort, we are also instructed to wait upon the Lord, lean upon the Lord, and trust upon the Lord.  It is possible to become so work focused that we exhaust ourselves trying to care for ourselves.  Jesus said, “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you” (Matthew 6:33).
