God is God

God is God.  On Sunday, both services, we mentioned the fact that God is not like us.  God is God.  His ways are higher than our ways, and His thoughts higher than our thoughts (Isaiah 55:9).  We become so accustomed to this life and our interactions with others, and even knowing ourselves, that we begin to assign the same characteristics of man upon God.  Once we do this, we begin to have a distorted view of God.  For example, the Bible says that God is love.  However, we have redefined love based on our interactions and our feelings.  In the Psalm portion of our reading today, the psalmist begins to describe the characteristics of the wicked.  God says, “When you see a thief, you make friends with him, and you associate with adulterers.  You unleash your mouth for evil and harness your tongue for deceit.  You sit, maligning your brother, slandering your mother’s son” (Psalm 50:18-20).  It is the next verse that stands out: “You have done these things, and I kept silent; you thought I was just like you” (v.21).  God then says that He will rebuke them.  We must not take God’s silence as approval of our actions.  We must examine the Scripture and ask God to examine us.  God is not like us.  He is holy, just, and perfect in every way.  He is patient and long suffering, but God requires righteousness.  He must for God is God!
