Sweet Hour of Prayer

Sweet hour of prayer.  I hope you are enjoying the reading, including the Psalms as much as I have been.  The Psalms can really help us in our prayer life.  Our reading from this morning in Psalms begins, “Lord, hear my prayer; let my cry for help come before you” (Psalm 102:1).  The psalmist goes on to speak about his afflictions, days vanishing like grass, and God’s indignation and wrath.  However, the psalmist concludes, “But you, Lord, are enthroned forever; your fame endures to all generations.  You will rise up and have compassion on Zion” (v.12-13).  We can take this psalm and relate, can’t we?  This helps us to know we are not the only ones going through this.  It also helps us to frame our thoughts in prayer to Almighty God, who is listening.  He is!  He hears our cries.  I thought about the old hymn “Sweet Hour of Prayer”.  Have you taken time today to just spend quality time with God in prayer?  The hymn begins, “Sweet hour of prayer! sweet hour of prayer! that calls me from a world of care, and bids me at my Father's throne make all my wants and wishes known.  In seasons of distress and grief, my soul has often found relief, and oft escaped the tempter's snare by thy return, sweet hour of prayer!”  Doesn’t that sound so restful and refreshing?
