Dying Love?

Dying love?  Do we have a love that is dying or do we have a dying love?  In our reading today, we read a lot about unity.  Jesus says, “I am in my Father, you are in me, and I am in you” (John 14:20).  After the unity is described, Jesus goes on to explain that He is the vine and we are the branches, and it is pivotal for the branch to remain in the vine to produce fruit (John 15:1-4).  Next, we read about Jesus’s example of love for us in that He died for us (John 15:13).  We are called to remain in His love (John 15:9).  And we are called to love one another as Christ has loved us (v.12).  We are not called to be saviors for one another because we cannot be.  We are not qualified, nor do we meet the standard.  However, we are called to lay down our lives for one another, just as a husband is called to be willing to lay down his life for his wife, again referencing Christ’s example.  Do we love each other that much?  Do we show it?  In a time in which many are focused on their own happiness, we are called to be more concerned about one another.  This is certainly good for us to show towards all, but should especially be true in the church.
