Our Safety

Saturday November 9, 2024
Our safety.  It has been over a month since I last wrote.  Please know it is not because I have stopped reading and I pray that you have continued your reading as well.  The psalm portion of our reading today came from Psalm 4.  The closing of that psalm is so strengthening and comforting to read.  The psalmist declares that God has put more joy in his heart than when the harvest of grain and wine abound (Psalm 4:7).  He then writes, “I will both lie down and sleep in peace, for you alone, Lord, make me live in safety” (v.8).  I am troubled by what I see in our nation.  Coming off of a presidential election, I have watched some be so devasted, they have completely shut down.  I have watched others celebrate and await what they believe to be prosperity and good times ahead. It is not that we should have a “I could care less” attitude about politics or the nation in which we live, but we should have a “care more” attitude about our close walk with the Lord.  God’s Word is powerful.  Isn’t it true that God has provided more joy in our hearts than any earthly event?  YES, He has!  We can have joy and peace because it is the Lord, alone, who makes us to live in safety.  Unlike the world, God does not change.  Unlike the world, God does not abandon or leave.  Unlike the world, God cannot be beaten for there is no one greater than God.  I do feel a sense of sadness for what I see.  I pray that we will draw ever closer to the Lord, for He alone is our safety.
